When I was a kid, more than twenty odd years ago, I went to a charter school. That is, a small state sponsored school that had a wholly different approach to education; teachers were not at all allowed to keep students in class...
I remember this one day vividly, watching Koyaanisqatsi in the austere and green interior of the local Seeds of Sheba building, this one story, four roomed building that you would not expect to experience... I certainly didn't. This was a community center/school borrowed for our school, which ran on a shoestring- the little school had no more than several dozen to start the year with.
When Koyaanisqatsi ended I was the only one left in the class, all the other students had left. The teacher, a very young man, wore his disappointment like his heart on his sleeve. His name I've long forgotten, and probably he will never know the importance of the two hours that movie had on my future.
The school folded at the end of that year, it's charter revoked from funding.
I waited for about five years.
In 2004 when it became feasible I took to the outside and spent the bulk of my twenties in Oregon, going outside virtually everyday to try for something.
I was twenty three, with no desire to go pro other than to fund my own work, it worked out for a little while, and then there was 2008.
Those younger days of cold, foggy valleys followed by sunny days and tree shrouded nights are here, in this.
Since 2004 I've done skytimelapse.com.
